Married couples who stay together for decades are becoming increasingly rare in today’s world. So, when we come across couples who have been married for 50, 60, or even 82 years, it’s natural to wonder what their secret is.
Each couple may have a different answer, but one couple from North Carolina has a surprisingly simple and powerful secret to their long and happy marriage.
D.V. Williams, aged 103, and Willie Williams, aged 100, recently celebrated their 82nd wedding anniversary. Their milestone was even more remarkable as they also marked their 103rd and 100th birthdays respectively, with just a seven-day difference between them. The couple’s love and commitment were honored with a celebration at a church in Charlotte, where they were surrounded by their loved ones.
The admiration and appreciation for D.V. and Willie’s enduring relationship were palpable. Their granddaughter, BJ Williams-Green, expressed her gratitude and said, “Seeing them at this age and so well is still good; it’s just a blessing they’re still here.”
Remarkably, D.V. and Willie are on the verge of entering the Guinness Book of Records for being the married couple with the oldest combined age. The current record is held by 100-year-old Miyako and her husband Masau Matsumoto, who is 108 years old, from Japan. The Japanese couple credits the woman’s patience for their long-lasting marriage.
However, when asked about their secret to success, D.V. and Willie humbly admitted that they didn’t have any grand formula. Their advice was surprisingly simple yet profound: “Just be nice to each other,” Willie Williams said.
In a world where the complexity of relationships can often get overwhelming, the message conveyed by D.V. and Willie’s enduring love is a refreshing reminder. They prove that sometimes it’s the simplest gestures, like kindness and respect, that can lay the foundation for a lifetime of happiness together.
So, let’s take a leaf out of their book and remember to be nice to our partners every day. After all, the secret to a long and happy marriage may be as simple as treating each other with kindness.
