Despite being honored with the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her role in Babygirl, director Halina Reijn accepted the award on Kidman’s behalf. Reijn shared the news that Kidman had returned home after learning of her mother’s passing earlier that day.
A Heartbreaking Statement
In a statement read by Reijn, Kidman expressed her grief, revealing that she found out about her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman’s, passing shortly after arriving in Venice. The Australian star said, “My heart is broken,” which left the audience in audible shock.
