Heavy hearts today… Sending prayers and warm thoughts to the unforgettable Nicole Kidman, 57.

Nicole Kidman Leaves Venice Film Festival Due to Tragic Loss

Nicole Kidman abruptly left the 81st Venice International Film Festival following the heartbreaking passing of her mother. Despite being honored with the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her role in Babygirl, director Halina Reijn accepted the award on Kidman’s behalf. Reijn shared the news that Kidman had returned home after learning of her mother’s passing earlier that day.

A Heartbreaking Statement

In a statement read by Reijn, Kidman expressed her grief, revealing that she found out about her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman’s, passing shortly after arriving in Venice. The Australian star said, “My heart is broken,” which left the audience in audible shock.

Reflections on Her Mother’s Health

Kidman had previously shared in 2022 that her mother had been dealing with health issues. At that time, Kidman was in Australia to help care for her. She cherished their closeness, stating, “She’s giving me the chance to view the world through an 81-year-old woman’s eyes.” Kidman praised her mother’s sharp mind, noting that she had not lost any memory and remained as bright and honest as ever.

Legacy of Kidman’s Parents

Both of Kidman’s parents were Australian. Her father, a psychologist, passed away in 2014. Her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who was 83 at the time of her passing, had frequently accompanied Kidman to red carpet events over the years.

A Moving Premiere at Venice

Kidman’s latest film, Babygirl, in which she plays a CEO having an affair with a young intern, premiered at the Venice Film Festival to great acclaim. The film received a seven-minute standing ovation, visibly moving Kidman, who embraced Reijn after the screening.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Nicole Kidman during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Janelle Ann Kidman.
